Hillsboro Library summer reading still going strong
Above are finished masterpieces from a summer reading program in June.
The halfway point of summer reading just means that the fun is about to increase at the Hillsboro Library.
Circulation manager Sarah Davidson said that some of the library’s biggest programs are planned for July.
“Our annual Local Author Night is always a big hit,” Davidson said. “We have so much talent in the area. We love getting the chance to celebrate them.
Local Author Night is July 9, 5-7 p.m.
Additionally, the summer’s many crafts are still going strong. Children’s manager Gabrielle Pitzer, described the upcoming crafts.
“Every year we always have more ideas than we have time to do them,” she said. “The great thing about our upcoming programs is we were able to fit more than one craft project into each day. For example, with stamp-making, we’ll get to create our own stamps, use pre-made stamps, and figure out what everyday objects could be used to make a variety of creations. Let kids really think outside the box.”
Later, kids will also have the chance to make food sculptures during the library’s Culinary Arts day on Thurs. 7/24. And, while the younger patrons are sculpting, tweens through adults are invited to come upstairs for “Book Tastings.”
Davison said, “We’ll basically have five different book-themed mini-parties set up throughout the library. If you’ve ever wanted to ‘live’ in your favorite book, now is your chance.”
The books are: "Twilight," "The Lord of the Rings," "The Chronicles of Narnia," "Gone with the Wind" and "Little Women."
And while both Davidson and Pitzer hate to see Summer Reading come to an end, they are excited for this year’s send-off program: A Color Carnival. The event will include bingo and a scavenger hunt (for all ages) and a kids’ mini golf game.
