Hillsboro Garden Club resumes monthly meetings
The Hillsboro Garden Club resumed its monthly meetings on March 27, at the Floral Hall.
The meeting was called to order by President Larry Moore.
Group members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang a patriotic song to start the meeting. Roll call was answered by all members discussing the early spring flowers that were blooming.
Ruth Anna Duff gave the treasurer’s report and told the group that the new roof had been installed on the Floral Hall by Mark Mathews.
The civic committee chair, Jackie Cowdrey, told the group about past holiday parade. The float was designed and decorated by the float committee and other club members and earned the “most humorous” trophy, with Monica Cowdrey being “stuck” in the chimney head first.
Rose Marie Cowdrey told the group that the annual class that she holds for juniors who may be interested in entering a potted plant in the fair, was April 17 at the Floral Hall at the fairgrounds.
Nancy Baldwin reminded the members that the regional meeting is May 10, with the local club hosting, at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Hillsboro.
The horticulture for the evening was a beautiful geranium brought in by Pat Lawrence that she watered and cared for through the winter months.
The program was presented by Nancy Baldwin, who shared with the group a fun fill-in paper about trees.
The next meeting will be April 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Floral Hall. The annual plant and garden auction will be held. The public is invited to attend.
