President Jennifer West brought the April 2025 meeting to order with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, welcoming 11 guests.
Secretary Lynn Luman took roll call with 11 members answering the question, “What is your favorite spring wild flower?”
The April tip of the month is as follows: The description “a favorite of birds” means to avoid planting near cars, sidewalks, or clotheslines.
Ruth Anna Duff provided the monthly treasurer’s report.
West passed out a schedule of the 2025 Highland County Fair flower shows, while Judith Stivender gave each member seeds to grow for exhibiting at the fair this year.
West then provided an update on the fall regional 16 meeting being hosted by the Hillsboro contingent on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Backroom Paradise.
Luman presented quotes to the membership from various local catering companies, with all members voting to accept the quote from Mike Allering with All Season’s Catering.
Recently the Hillsboro Garden Club honored the life of long-time member, Beryl Gruelle, who recently passed away. We would like to offer a heartfelt thank-you to Beryl’s family, especially her son, Kevin, for gifting the HGC her scrapbooks and memorabilia. What a treasured gift and a wonderful walk down memory lane. You are missed, Beryl!
The meeting was adjourned to hold the plant auction, facilitated by Larry Moore, assisted by Stivender and Luman. Refreshments were provided by Shelly Rayburn and West.
The next meeting of the HGC will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the floral hall at the Highland County Fairgrounds.
The horticulture, as well as the educational program will be presented by Nancy Sonner. The hostesses will be Carol Gorby and Jennifer West. Want to learn about the Hillsboro Garden Club? Follow us on Facebook.
