Hillsboro Garden Club holds meeting, seeks vendors for event

By Lynn Luman
Secretary
Hillsboro Garden Club

Jennifer West, president, opened the September meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Lynn Luman, secretary, took roll call with 17 members and 2 guests answering the question, “How did you participate in the fair flower shows?”

The club also welcomed 4 new members: Sue Hurley, Amanda Robertson, and David Inlow, along with Avacyn Frances, an honorary member, and our favorite junior gardener.

The tip of the month is as follows: The phrase “may require support” means your child’s engineering degree will finally pay off.

In absence of treasurer Ruth Anna Duff, West provided the monthly financial report, while Luman passed out the new 2025-2026 program book.

West continued the meeting by sharing final preparations for the Region 16 Fall Meeting at the Backroom Paradise on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Hillsboro Garden Club would like to know if you own/operate a home-based business or have a side hustle. Examples: honey/jams/jellies; crocheted/knitted items; arts/crafts; jewelry; woodworking; painting; candles; or soaps/lotions. There are still a few vendor spots available at our forthcoming regional meeting, and if this opportunity sounds of interest to you, please contact us as soon as possible via Facebook, and post a message with your contact information. We would love to include you as a vendor and showcase local talent. Deadline is Oct. 1 for vendor signup.

Judith Stivender made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Luman, which carried. Refreshments were provided by Connie Hilliard and West.  Following refreshments, the fall plant auction was conducted by Larry Moore, assisted by Shelly Rayburn and Luman.

The next meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club will be Tues., Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the floral hall located at the Highland County Fairgrounds. The horticulture will be presented by Teresa Cudkowicz, the program by Hilliard, and refreshments by West and Luman. The public is invited to attend.
