Hillsboro Garden Club Christmas Party Dec. 12

The Hillsboro Garden Club held its monthly meeting at the Floral Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 15. President Larry Moore called the meeting to order. All members recited The Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll call soon followed with 19 members present.
A charming Halloween arrangement was brought to the meeting by Vice President Carol Gorby. A beautiful array of dried painted heliconia adorned the arrangement. Member Sharon Mills also brought a lovely planter of begonia for all to enjoy.
A brief update on OAGC news was given by Nancy Baldwin. Nancy also told about the Victor Reese book, named for one of the “Founding Fathers” of garden clubs, that she is working on. She stated that in this book will be two years' worth of Hillsboro Garden Club information.
Two more books including the "Program" and "Beautification" have been sent in by Nancy, as well.
Larry Moore shared pictures of a recent show he attended. His dahlias won Best of Show. Great job, Larry!
The group would like to thank Wilkin Heating for the donation of two air conditioning units for the Floral Hall.
In addition, the Sunshine Committee sent our three cards to members who were feeling under the weather. The Flower Show Committee informed the group that the theme for the Highland County Fair Flower Show is going to be “Patchwork Quilts.”
A reminder and brief discussion about a novice class took place. It was decided that possibly a class to help novice members with their designs could take place in March.
The annual OAGC event was discussed. The event will be May 10, 2012, at Ponderosa. The Hillsboro Garden Club will be hosting the event this year.
Jackie Cowdrey, secretary and chairperson of the Christmas Parade float committee reminded interested members about the parade on Nov. 26.
The club welcomed new members Jen and Ron Blackburn. At the conclusion of the meeting, wonderful refreshments were prepared and served by Arlene Huiet and Nancy Sonner.
The finale for the Garden Club this year will be the Christmas Party, held at Ponderosa, on Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. All members were reminded to bring a gift for the exchange.
