The Hillsboro Garden Club 2010 Flower Show committee has announced the artistic design classes for the three Highland County Fair flower shows next year. The theme, Festivals and Fairs, was selected to celebrate local enterprise and entertainment, according to committee chairman Rose Marie Cowdrey.
The two categories for Monday's dahlia show are Bainbridge Festival of Leaves and Wilmington Corn Festival. How each floral arrangement reflects the category is the designer's choice.
Junior displays will be exhibited on Wednesday, along with an open class for non-garden club members. For Juniors, the categories are: The Banana Split Festival of Wilmington, the Hillsboro Festival of Bells and the Old West Festival of Mt. Orab.
"We love seeing the creativity and imagination that young designers bring to their arrangements," Ms. Cowdrey says. "We think they'll have a lot of fun with their ideas about these festivals."
Non-garden club members have two designer choice categories: the Renaissance Festival of Harveysburg and an inspirational design for the Mowrystown Church Festival class. For the Festival of Bells, participants are asked to include a sound component in their arrangement, called a vibratile design. Chillicothe's Feast of the Flowering Moon category will be reflected in a synergistic design, which uses three containers. Small niche designs based on the Leesburg Artisans and Folk Fair are the final category. Garden Club president Nancy Baldwin says. We wanted to challenge designers as well as give them something exciting to think about and time to plan."
Friday's flower show will feature vibratile, inspirational and small niche arrangements by garden club members. In addition, a stretch design using two containers connected by a horizontal component will recognize Greenfield's annual Wheels of Progress Festival and a reverse diagonal design will complement the Lynchburg Covered Bridge Festival category. Designer's Choice submissions are invited for the Rocky Fork Lake Blue Grass Festival category and wreaths will represent the Old Timer Days Festival of Peebles.
