The Hillsboro Emblem Club met on Tuesday, April 13 at the Elks Lodge. Thirteen members were present. Communications received by the Club included a call to the 69th Annual Ohio State Association of Emblem Clubs and the West Virginia Club Convention. It will be held in Upper Sandusky, Ohio on June 11, 12 and 13th. Several Clubs from Ohio sent invitations to their annual installations, where Supreme President Melody Cathey will be performing the installations. A donation will be sent to the American Heart Association in memory of Past State President Elinor Cornelius’s son Kenny Hilliard.
The Americanism chairman read an article on the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and informed members that old flags can be brought in to the May meeting and someone will take them to the VFW for proper disposal.
A report was given on the State meeting that was held in Nelsonville, Ohio on April 10 and 11. Five members traveled to Nelsonville for the weekend and returned with 30 gifts that were won by club members from the Embola raffle. This raffle is held each year to raise money for the scholarship program. President Christine reminded members that all yearly reports are due by May 1, 2010.
Four thousand manufactured coupons were sent to the United Kingdom and Japan for servicepersons overseas. Box tops for education and Campbell’s soup labels were also collected and sent to area schools.
The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge. Members continue to run the refreshment sales at bingo every Monday night at 7 p.m.
