At the crossroads of U.S. 62 and S.R. 321 in southern Highland County, just south of Hillsboro near Mowrystown, there’s a beloved local dining spot with a rich history and a fresh new name: The Highland South Kitchen. 

Formerly known by many as The Y Restaurant, The Highland South, or The Old Y, this iconic eatery has been a staple of the community for years and now under new ownership, it’s stepping into an exciting new era.

Together, Clinton and Marcy Boyd and Randy and Jazmen Bramos bring passion and experience to this new venture. When the opportunity arose last year to purchase the restaurant, they welcomed the chance not wanting it to fall into the hands of out-of-towners or, worse, close its doors altogether. Their mission? To honor the restaurant’s legacy while creating something fresh and vibrant for the people of southern Highland County.

Reopening just two months after taking over, The Highland South Kitchen is more than just a restaurant, it’s a hub for the community. The rural setting of the restaurant presents unique challenges, but it also opens the door to offering valuable job opportunities and contributing to the local economy. The Boyd and Bramos families rely heavily on strong community support and strive to provide positive customer experiences that build lasting loyalty.

The Highland South Kitchen offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner Tuesdays through Sundays from 7 a.m.-8 p.m., featuring crowd favorites like their signature smashburgers, delicious fish, a fresh salad bar and a rotating selection of daily specials.
