The guest speaker will be Maryellen O'Shaughnessy, running for Secretary of State. She is the daughter of two World War II veterans and comes from a long line of public servants. In this position, she oversees a vast system of county records as well as a staff of 231 and a budget of $12.5 million. O'Shaughnessy is running for Secretary of State because she is passionate about continuing to have free, open, and fair elections. She will push to make it easy for Ohioans to register to vote by allowing applicants for driver's licenses and social services to be provided assured voter registration. She will also enhance programs targeted at increasing voter participation among Ohioans of all ages, particularly young people.
Dinah Phillips, County Chairperson, said, "We are indeed fortunate that Maryellen is coming to Highland County, so we'll get to meet her and ask questions as to her qualifications for this important state office."
Also scheduled to be present for the dinner will be Justin Fallon, Candidate for State Senate, as well as State Representative candidates Bill Horne and Laura Curliss. Gary Heaton, County Commissioner, and Jeff Griffith, candidate for Auditor, will also be present.
