George Rise to be honored at roast
At 6:30 p.m. on April 26 in the Blanchester High School Auditeria, a group of lifetime friends and understudies of George Rise will gather to pay homage to "The Coach," a title he has carried with him for 36-plus years. Beginning in a small mining town in Latrobe, Penn. more than 60 years ago when he first picked up a football, his life has pretty much revolved around football ever since. With a lifetime head coaching record of 204-85-5, his prowess as a coach speaks for itself. But if you are a football fan from Goshen or Blanchester, you won't need a statistic to prove his ability as a coach.
From the Clermont County League in 1976 to the Fort Ancient Valley league and the Kenton Trace League in 2000, Rise has made his mark. Named to the Clermont County Sports Hall of Fame in 2003, producing two Lombardi Award winners while at Blanchester and induction into the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007, are all milestones of a champion. And a champion he is to all those hundreds of kids who grew up learning how to pass a football from George Rise; coach, mentor, or principal, the results are the same.
Anyone wishing to attend the roast may make reservations by sending $20 per person - children 12 and under are $12 - to BDDC, P.O. BOX 204 Blanchester, Ohio 45107, postmarked by April 21. For more information, call (937) 289-2461. Reservations may also be made at First National Bank of Blanchester or the NCB in Blanchester.
