Pricetown Memorial Day service

The annual Memorial Day activities in Pricetown will be held Monday, May 27. The march to Barker Cemetery will begin at the Pricetown Church at 10 a.m. Pricetown Church of Christ Senior Minister Daryl Mount will present the message in the cemetery, and a selected veteran will be honored.
    Everyone will then return to the Pricetown Church for the annual program at
11 a.m. The program will feature patriotic songs, pledges to the flags, the
Gettysburg Address, a keynote presentation and the honoring of all veterans.
The traditional Quilts of Honor will also be presented.
    The keynote presentation will be given by Paul Worley. Worley was an
Army officer who earned the rank of captain. He served two tours of duty in
Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan. He has received numerous honors and
decorations, and he is now the economic development director for Adams
County. Following the cemetery march and the church program, the annual community
dinner will be served in the church's fellowship hall beginning at noon. The
Pricetown Church of Christ provides this meal free to everyone. It will be
served until at least 1 p.m.

Lynchburg Memorial Day services
    The annual Lynchburg Memorial Day services will be held Sunday, May 26,
beginning at noon with a parade from the Old School Park to the Lynchburg
Masonic Cemetery, where ceremonies will be held. Presentations will be made
by Elaine Williams of the Lynchburg Historical Society and Suzette Heller,
U.S. Army retired of the Save-A-Warrior Program, with flag ceremonies by
Scout Troop 120 and the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard.
    The Village of Lynchburg will host a cookout in the center of town
afterward and will honor a local veteran at that time.

Mowrystown Memorial Day
parade, services May 27
    The annual Mowrystown community Memorial Day Parade and services will be
held on May 27. The parade will leave from Whiteoak High School at 1:30 p.m.
and proceed to the cemetery. This year¹s speaker is Greg Harvey.
    The Mowrystown Cemetery Association organizes the event and invites all
community members to attend.

Hillsboro Memorial Day
service May 27
    Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will host a Memorial Day service May 27 at 10:30
a.m. at the Highland County Veterans Memorial at the Highland County
Courthouse. 
    The speaker will be Thomas Payne, retired Air Force major of 25 years.

Greenfield special election 
set for July 15
    A special election for Greenfield voters will be held July 15, according to
Greenfield City Manager Todd Wilkin. Voters will decide on whether to maintain the current form of government.

Mowrystown VBS
    The Mowrystown Community Vacation Bible School will be June 3-7 from 9
a.m.-noon. The opening session will begin at the Church of Christ community
center. Preregistration is available online.
    This year's theme is SCUBA. Come in and dive into the fun.

Sinking Spring School alumni
    The annual Sinking Spring School alumni celebration will be Saturday,
June 8. All graduates, attending students, former teachers, cafeteria
workers, custodians, bus drivers and anyone else who contributed to the
outstanding education students received at their beloved school are invited
to attend.
    The social hour is from 4-6 p.m. Dinner will be a catered buffet served
at 6:30 p.m.
    The cost of the meal will be $12 per person, and reservations may be
sent to Nina Couser, 2479 state Route 41, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 or to
the Sinking Spring Alumni Association, Box 5, Sinking Spring 45172.

Lynchburg-Clay 
Alumni Banquet June 8
    The Lynchburg and Lynchburg-Clay Alumni Association will hold its Alumni
Banquet on Saturday evening, June 8, at the Lynchburg-Clay Elementary
School. The meal will be served at 6:30 p.m., but a time for touring the
buildings and athletic facilities, reviewing school history, and socializing
will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
    All Lynchburg H.S. and Lynchburg-Clay H.S. graduates and former students
are invited. The cost is $25 per person and will feature a catered meal and
an outstanding evening of entertainment and reminiscing.

Coach Veidt hosts
baseball camp June 3-6
    Commitment Baseball School with Hall of Fame Coach Chris Veidt will be
offered at Hillsboro's Shaffer Park, June 3-6 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. The
camp is open to boys and girls ages 6-14 and is designed to provide each
camper with the fundamentals of hitting, pitching, catching, base running
and defense.
    Preregistration is $75 ($50 for each additional sibling) or $125 on
site. Registration forms can be downloaded at

SOESC Board
to meet June 25
    The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board hereby
gives notice that it will hold a public meeting pursuant to the provisions
of R.C. 3307.353 to consider the re-employment of Linda Mead, as a
superannuate to the same position from which she previously retired. The
public meeting will occur June 25 at 7 p.m. at Southern Ohio Educational
Service Center, 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington.  

AmVets Post 61 events
    Amvets Post 61, located at Rocky Fork Lake, has announced the following
upcoming events:
    • Bingo on Thursday evenings;
    • Weekend breakfasts this summer;
    • Cookouts (steaks and pork chops) all summer; and
    • Various bands and entertainers this summer.
    A car show honoring POW/MIA soldiers will be held Aug. 10.

HCCAO Board meetings
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2024 on the following dates: May 28, June 25, July 23, Aug. 27,
Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 26 and Dec. 24.

Brushcreek Township
Trustees' meetings
    The Board of Brushcreek Township Trustees, Highland County, will hold
their public meetings on the first and third Monday of each month for the
entirety of the year 2024. Meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Brushcreek
Township Fire Department, 7 N. Chestnut St., Sinking Spring.

HDH Board of
Governors meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will meet in 2024 on
the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in the
Education Room, located on the first floor at Highland District Hospital.

Hillsboro meetings
    The City of Hillsboro has released the following revised 2024 meeting
schedule.
    • City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: June 13,
July 11, Aug. 15, Sept. 12, Oct. 17, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
    • Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: June 17, July 15,
Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.
    • The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
at 130 North High St. Scheduled dates are: May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov. 20.
    • The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates are: June
12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

Peace Lutheran Church
    Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland
County Fair and has their meetings at the church. Call Peace Lutheran at

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
