Greenfield Farmers Market
meeting April 4

Highland SWCD
announces tree pickup dates
The Highland Soil and Water Conservation Districts tree seedling orders
will be ready for pickup on Friday, April 6 (7:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.). The
one-day pickup will be held at the Liberty Township Building, located on
Moore Road across from Seal-Tite. The building will only be open during
these times, so make arrangements to pick-up your trees that day.
There are a few tree packets still available on a first-come,
first-serve basis. If you are interested in purchasing tree seedlings, stop
by the Liberty Township building Friday during the pick-up times or contact
the Highland SWCD office at 393-1922 ext. 3.

• On April 7 at 7 p.m., Bob Patton will give a presentation on the history
of Marshall Township and the recently razed school. Appetizers and drinks
will be served, and there will be an unveiling of the Marshall basketball

   The Highland County House of Prayer, Inc. will hold monthly board

Fish Fry at St. Mary
   The Highland County Firefighter Association and St. Mary Catholic School
are having a fish fry every Friday during Lent in the school hall at 119 E.
Walnut St. Dinners will be served from 4:30-6:30 PM. Dinner includes fish
sandwich, fries, cole slaw and drink for $7. Desserts are $1. Carryout is
available. Everyone is invited to enjoy a delicious dinner.

Cowan Lake Association
of Sportsmen events
   The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen (CLASS) will host a soup and
salad smorgasbord dinner on Friday, March 30 from 4-7 p.m. The menu will
include a variety of homemade soups and salads, desserts and beverages.
Meals cost $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $2 for children. Carryout is

Methodist Church

School District will be held on Wednesday, April 4 in the Lynchburg-Clay

register from 12:30-3 p.m.

Engineer's Office

 The following are the 2012 summer hours for the Highland County Engineer's Office and County Highway Department. Effective April 2 through Oct. 4, 2012, the Highland County Engineer's Office and County Highway Department will be working four (4) ten (10)-hour days, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All business should be conducted during these hours. The office and highway garage will be closed all day Friday effective with the above dates. After-hour emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the Highland County Sheriff at 393-1421.

Whiteoak holds Adult
Computer Basics Courses
   Adult Computer Basics Courses will be offered again this Spring at
Whiteoak High School. The classes will be taught by the advance computer
applications class and will include an introduction lesson to Microsoft
Office 2010 Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with getting to know the
computer components and G-mail. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and
Thursdays in April from 10-11 a.m. The first class starts on April 3, and
will be held in the high school computer lab across from the high school.

The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield Methodist Church

on Saturday, March 31 from 4-5:30 p.m. The menu is chicken and noodles,

Chatfield College to hold Easter Celebration
   Chatfield College in St. Martin will sponsor an Easter celebration at
its St. Martin campus on Saturday, March 31 from noon-3 p.m. Guests will
enjoy Christian music and fellowship, an Easter egg hunt, food, pictures
with the Easter Bunny, and much more. Admission is $5 per carload. This
event is a team fundraising effort by the Chatfield College Student
Government Association, Chatfield College Campus Ministry, and Team Chandler

Hollowtown Church of Christ
   On Sunday, April 1, Dr. Hoyt W. Allen, Jr. will be the featured guest
speaker at the Hollowtown Church of Christ's Spring Revival, set for April
1-4. The revival will kick off 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning and will begin at 7

Bright Local hold
community family photo event
   Modern Woodmen of America is partnering with Bright Local Schools for a
Community Family Picture Event on Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17
from 4-8 pm each evening. Families will receive an 8x10 portrait for a
donation of $15 and additional picture packages will be available for
purchase. Community members may call the high school at 937-442-2241 ext

part of a $2,500 Matching Fund Program through Modern Woodmen of America.
All proceeds will benefit Bright Local Schools Yearbook. Spring Picture Day
for Whiteoak Jr./Sr. High Students is Wednesday, April 18. Picture packages
will be sent home with students one week prior to picture day.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny
April 7 at Lynchburg firehouse
   Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District will host breakfast
with the Easter Bunny on April 7 at the firehouse, located at 8123 state
Route 135 in Lynchburg. The event costs $6 for adults and $4 for children
under 5. An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m.,

Deadline approaches for
quilt and craft applications
   The 2012 Chatfield College Quilt and Craft Show will be held from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at the St. Martin campus in St. Martin
and features the creations of local and regional quilters and quilt
collectors, a quilt contest, a craft show, traditional craft demonstrations,
carriage rides courtesy of First State Bank, a mini cruise in, a book sale,
and delicious food from Fat Boy’s Dream Floating restaurant.  
   The quilt exhibit will include traditional quilts of any theme as well
as contemporary pieces. The show will also feature a quilt contest of
seasonal-themed quilts. Applications are available now to exhibit quilts,
demonstrate or sell crafts and to enter the quilt contest.
   The craft show will highlight over 25 area artisans who will exhibit,
demonstrate and sell their traditional crafts. General admission is $3 for
adults, $2 for senior citizens, and admission is free if you arrive in a
classic car. Children 12 and under are also admitted free. Chatfield College

Soup and song fundraiser
March 31 in Lynchburg
   A soup and song fundraiser will be held from 1:30-5:30 p.m. March 31 at
Lynchburg-Clay Elementary School to benefit the Because He Lives Food
Pantry. Music will be presented by the Sunshine Band, The Trail Blazers –
Troy and Tim Villars and Friends, Don Pierson and Parker Hastings. Donations
will be accepted.

CAMP signups open
for 57th annual session
   Young people grades 6 through June 2012 grads may now register for the
award-winning motivational camp, C.A.M.P., which will happen Aug. 5-11 at
the Resident Camp at Tar Hollow State Park. This is C.A.M.P.’s 57th annual
session. During those years, it has accumulated more than its share of
accolades, from the president of the U.S. on down.
   Dave and Janny Brizius, founding directors of C.A.M.P., feel that the
most important “award” the camp has ever received is the fact that their
all-volunteer staff (numbering about 100) returns year after year.
   Most were former campers themselves and now return at their own expense
from all over the country to “pay back” for their experiences at C.A.M.P.
   More than 20 areas of interest are available from which the campers may
choose. The camp is spiritually centered, but totally interdenominational.
   All-inclusive cost for C.A.M.P. is $215 before discounts. (See the web

discounts.)

UCANspay/neuter program
   UCAN Highland County Transport's low-cost spay/neuter program will hold
drop-offs and pick-ups for pets on the fourth Wednesday and Thursday of the
month at Peace Lutheran Church, 231 Harry Sauner Road. Pets are to be
dropped off at the church between 7-7:15 a.m. on Wednesdays and may be
picked up between 11:30 a.m. - noon Thursdays. All pets must be in pet
carriers. Fees are $35 for cats; $75 to spay a dog; and $65 to neuter a dog.
Rabies shots are required for all pets who have not received a shot within
one year and may be purchased for an additional $10. Forms for the UCAN
program may be picked up at any Highland County library. Forms must be
mailed with a money order or cashier check (no personal checks) to UCAN,

Annual trout derby April 7
   A trout derby and fun shoot will be held at the Rocky Fork State Park
campground docks on April 7 (rain date: April 8) for children ages 15 and
under. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Fishing will take place from 1-4
p.m., and shooting will take place from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be
random prizes for the first 500 kids registered. All guns and ammunition are
provided (do not bring a shotgun or ammo). There will be tagged money fish,
archery shooting, food and drinks and shotgun shooting. The event is
sponsored by Highland County Rod & Gun Club, Ohio Division of Wildlife and
Ohio Division of Parks and Recreation, with special thanks to the Friends of
NRA Hillsboro Chapter.

Union Church of Christ
revival April 15-17
   Union Church of Christ will hold a spring revival April 15-17 with
evangelist Wally Rendel and song evangelists Bobby and Carolyn Delaney. The
revival will be held 10:20 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and will begin Monday and
Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. There will be special music and refreshments nightly.

SATH to host 'Lunch with the Easter Bunny'
   The SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) organization will
sponsor "Lunch with the Easter Bunny" on Saturday, March 31 at the Patriot
Center at Southern State Community College, Central Campus in Hillsboro,
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
   The children will have lunch, make an Easter craft, decorate eggs, have
their picture taken with the Easter Bunny and at 12:30 end the day with an
Easter Egg Hunt. The cost is $7 per child and $5 for adults.

   The Soup's On Free Meal will be held Saturday, March 31 from 5-6:30 p.m.

Holy Week services
   St. Mary's Episcopal Church invites everyone to attend one or all of the
special Easter services that will be celebrated during Holy Week. Beginning
Sunday, April 1 at 10 a.m., a service with carrying of palm leaves and a
special reading telling what happened during Jesus Christ's last days on
earth will occur.
   Then on Monday, April 2 at 7 p.m., an informative service, "Meditation
on the Great Litany," will be provided. Maundy Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m.
is a deeply emotional service based on the Last Supper and Jesus washing the
feet of His disciples. Friday, April 6 at noon tells the story of Jesus'
trial and carrying the cross to His death in "Stations of the Cross."
   An Easter vigil of quiet meditation and meaningful contemplation will be
held on Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 8, there will be
two services. The first will be a sunrise service beginning at 6 a.m. and
will be held in the Memorial Garden on the North Street side of the church.
The second service will be at 10 a.m. with a traditional Easter service and
Holy Eucharist.

Tasting luncheon
April 14 at Greenfield
First Presbyterian Church
   "Let’s Celebrate" is the theme of this year’s Presbyterian Women's
tasting luncheon. The event will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14 at the First
Presbyterian Church, 457 Jefferson St., Greenfield. Tickets will be
available at the door and include a taste of over 40 recipes and a cookbook.

   The Highland County Senior Citizens Center annual indoor flea market is

Palm Sunday services
   The Rainsboro and Marshall United Methodist Churches would like to
invite you to their Palm Sunday Worship Service this Sunday, April 1. The
Rainsboro service begins at 9:30 a.m. The Marshall service begins at 11 a.m.

Marshall School Committee
dinner April 14
   The Marshall School Committee will hold a roast pork, baked steak and
chicken dinner at the Marshall School gymnasium Saturday, April 14 from 4-8
p.m. The menu will also include scalloped potatoes, green beans, salad bar,
rolls, desserts and drinks. A freewill donation will be accepted. A
theme-basket silent auction and 50/50 raffle will be held throughout the
evening. All proceeds will be used for the renovation and upkeep of the

   Hills and Dales will host a craft show Saturday, March 31 from 9 a.m. -
4 p.m. at their building, located at 8919 US Highway 50, two miles east of
Hillsboro.

Bright Local
Kindergarten registration
   Bright Local School District is announcing their kindergarten
registration process for 2012.  Parents/Guardians are requested to complete
paperwork and to schedule a screening time. A Kindergarten packet and
scheduling can be completed on any school day from now until April 4 between
7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Bright Elementary School office. Parents
should bring driver’s license, proof of residence, the child’s birth
certificate, shot record, Social Security card and custody papers (if
necessary). The child’s attendance is not required to fill out paperwork,
however the child should attend the screening day on Friday, April 13.
Bright Elementary is located at 6100 Fair Ridge Road. All children who are 5
years old on or before August 1, 2012 are eligible to register. Please call

VFW fish fry April 7
   VFW Post 9094 will host a fish fry Saturday, April 7 from 4:30-7 p.m. at
their building on 50 behind the Hillsboro Dairy Queen. Meals are $7 and
include all the fish you can eat, fries, slaw, hush puppies and a soft
drink. The event is open to the public.

   The Carmel Church of God, 5554 Carmel Road, is having an egg hunt on
Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. Ages 12 and under are welcome to participate.

Central Ohio Opry
in Buford April 7
   The Central Ohio Opry Music show is coming back to the old Buford School
on Saturday, April 7.
   Doors open at 6 p.m. and show time is from 7-9:30 p.m. Guest singers are
Megan Snively and David Wayne. Concessions are available so come on out and
have supper before the show.
   Cost is $8 per person and children under 12 free.
 
Flea markets at
Sardinia Veterans Park
   A monthly flea market will be held at the Sardinia Veterans Park on the
first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., beginning May 5 through
Sept. 1. Food will be served at these events. An organization wanting to
sell food for a fundraiser must call in advance to reserve an available
date. Anyone with crafts or other items to sell is welcome. Each space is 20
feet wide, and electric is available if needed. There will not be a set
rental fee; it will be by donation only. All donations will be used to
upgrade and maintain the Veterans Park. Anyone interested in a space or
