Fall Creek Ladies USFW
rummage/bake sale July 6-7
On Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7, the Fall Creek Ladies USFW will
have a rummage/bake sale from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. both days. The church is
located at 11345 Karnes Road, Hillsboro.
Festival of the Bells
3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
The Festival of the Bells 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, sponsored by the
Hillsboro Lions Club, will be held July 7 at the Hillsboro City Park (West
North and Railroad Street).
There will be boys and girls divisions of ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14,
15-16, 17-18 and 19 and older. There are four players per team, and proof of
age must be shown at check-in.
There is no pre-registration. The entry fee is $80 per team (cash or
checks made out to the Hillsboro Lions Club). Registration will be held from
8-9 a.m., and games will start at 10 a.m. This is a double elimination
tournament. First and second place trophies will be awarded.
Proceeds will be used by the Lions Club to further their community
service work and charitable donations. Thank you for your support.

Cattleman’s Association
sponsors Summer of Giving
The Highland County Cattleman’s Association is sponsoring “Summer of
Giving.” This is an event designed to help one family in each of the five
Highland County school districts. Donations are being accepted for school
supplies, clothes, toys, food, and monetary donations and gift cards to
local merchants will also be accepted. Donations will be accepted through
July 9 at the following locations: Bright Local Food Pantry, Union
Stockyards, NCB of Hillsboro, Southern Hills Community Bank in Leesburg, WW Cleaners in Greenfield, Higgins Steel Roofing, and at the Highland County
Cattleman’s booth during the Festival of the Bells. For information, contact

Classic Country Opry
upcoming shows
The Central Ohio Classic Country Opry will be returning to the Clay
Township Park (the old Buford School) the first and third Saturday of each
month. Admission is $8, and children under 12 are admitted free. Concessions
are open throughout the evening and the doors open at 6 p.m. The show is
from 7-9:30 p.m.
Shows include:
• June 19 – Guest singers are Jenni Lyn and Rich Skaggs.
As always there will be refreshments and great music by the Central Ohio
Opry Band.
Hillsboro-area AAUW
accepting scholarship
applications
The Hillsboro-area AAUW is currently accepting applications for the 2012
scholarships. The applicant must be a current resident of Highland County
and must have resided in Highland County for the last two years. The
scholarships are awarded to “non-traditional” female students whose
education has been interrupted or delayed. Applications are available at the
libraries in Highland County or any AAUW member. All applications must be

meets on Tuesdays
The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7
p.m. at ReaLife Church, located at 230 West South Street, Hillsboro.

Group meetings
The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the
third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

The Hillsboro Eagles host bingo on Thursday nights. Doors open at 5:30

AA meetings in Rainsboro
The Rocky Fork Lake/Rainsboro area has a new meeting of AA at Rainsboro
United Methodist Church, Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. In addition, there will
be Al-Anon support meetings Saturdays at the church.
House of Prayer

The Highland County House of Prayer, Inc. will hold monthly board
meetings on the last Wednesday of each month. The meetings will take place

Sardinia Veterans Park
A monthly flea market will be held at the Sardinia Veterans Park on the
first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., through Sept. 1. There will
not be a set rental fee; it will be by donation only. All donations will be
used to upgrade and maintain the Veterans Park. Anyone interested can call

Engineer’s Office
summer hours
The following are the summer hours for the County Engineer’s Office and
Highway Department. Effective through Oct. 4, the engineer’s office will be
working four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
After-hour emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the sheriff at
393-1421.

St. Mary Catholic School in Hillsboro will be holding the annual Joe
Penn Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 23 at the Hillsboro Elks Golf
Course. Tee times are 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. The cost is $200 per team and hole
sponsors are also available for $100. There will a 50/50 drawing and prizes,

fundraiser July 21
The Elect Chad E. McConnaughey Campaign Committee would like to invite
everyone to a Fundraising Meet and Greet on July 21st at the VFW Outside
Pavilion from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Hillsboro. This will be a great time to get

Pathway to Fishing seminar June 30
The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen (CLASS) will present a Pathway to
Fishing seminar on Saturday, June 30. It is free and open to the public. The
fishing seminar features a pathway of hands-on stations that teach fish
identification, fishing basics, casting, angler ethics, safety and local
fishing information. This program is geared toward children adults with
little or no fishing experience. Children ages 3 to 8 must be accompanied by
an adult. The clubhouse address is 331 Beechwood Road (off Route 350),

Car Show to be held
at Mt. Orab church
The Living Church of Five Mile will be hosting the 6th Annual Dean Ruark
Memorial Car Show on Saturday, June 16. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.,
with judging starting at 11:30 a.m. Registration is $10 and open to all
classes of cars, trucks, and bikes. Unique trophies for all classes,
People’s Choice Trophy, great door prizes all day. Lunch and snacks will be
available along with a bake sale and trophies and prizes for the corn hole

An Evening at
Travellers Rest June 16
The Greenfield Historical Society is planning "An Evening at Travellers
Rest" on Saturday, June 16. The evening will consist of dessert and
beverages on the patio and in the Old Burying Ground with plenty of time to
socialize. At the society's Sunday dinners, the board of directors noticed
that our guests enjoyed socializing with friends and from that we decided to
host an evening of desserts in the quiet surroundings of the Travellers rest
patio and the Old Burying Ground. Among the desserts for the evening will be
peach cobbler, chocolate cake and at least one sugar free item. Time for the
event will be 7 p.m. and the cost will be $5. In case of rain or unbearable
heat, the evening will be in the Grain & Hay building.
St. Mary's Episcopal Church
offering Saturday services
St. Mary's Episcopal Church, located at 234 North High Street (with red
doors; across from UDF) will begin offering a Saturday evening service with
communion starting June 16. Beginning at 5 p.m. every Saturday, this worship
service will be casual, with a full liturgy. The church's hope is to gather
those people who are not available on Sunday mornings but find themselves
yearning to hear and reflect on the true Word of God. Everyone is welcome.

Belfast United Methodist Church
ice cream supper June 29
The annual ice cream supper of the Belfast United Methodist Church will be
held Friday, June 29 from 4:30-7 p.m. A menu of homemade chicken and
noodles, ground chicken sandwiches, sloppy joes and coney sandwiches, baked
beans, many salads, fresh pies, cake and seven flavors of homemade ice cream
will be offered for a freewill donation. Quarts of ice cream will be
available for sale. Pastor Mick Parks and the congregation invite you to
come, enjoy a good meal and visit with friends. Sorry, no carryouts.
Open Door free meal June 30
The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield First United
Methodist Church on Saturday, June 30. Serving will be from 4-5:30 p.m. The
menu is hamburgers, potato chips, baked beans, and brownies. Everyone is

The HDH Foundation golf tournament will be July 21 at the Hillsboro Elks

Benefit for Brandon Barrett
June 30 in Buford
There will be a benefit dinner for Brandon Barrett on June 30. It will
be held at the Clay Township Park (the old Buford school) from 4-7 p.m.
Barrett is 25 and has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He is
presently going through treatments and is scheduled for a bone marrow
transplant. He will be in the hospital for at least a month. Barrett is
married to Cassie (Adkins) and has two small children. He is unable to work
and has no income or insurance. Dinners will be served for a donation. There
will be music throughout the evening by Trent Sams. An auction will be held
at 7 p.m. Anyone who would like to donate baked goods or other items for the
