Classic Country Opry
upcoming shows
The Central Ohio Classic Country Opry will be returning to the Clay
Township Park (the old Buford School) the first and third Saturday of each
month. Admission is $8, and children under 12 are admitted free. Concessions
are open throughout the evening and the doors open at 6 p.m. The show is
from 7-9:30 p.m.
Shows include:
• June 2 – Guest singers are Jennifer Bennington and Tim Villars.
• June 19 – Guest singers are Jenni Lyn and Rich Skaggs.
As always there will be refreshments and great music by the Central Ohio
Opry Band.
Hillsboro-area AAUW
accepting scholarship
applications
The Hillsboro-area AAUW is currently accepting applications for the 2012
scholarships. The applicant must be a current resident of Highland County
and must have resided in Highland County for the last two years. The
scholarships are awarded to “non-traditional” female students whose
education has been interrupted or delayed. Applications are available at the
libraries in Highland County or any AAUW member. All applications must be

Recovery program
meets on Tuesdays
The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7
p.m. at ReaLife Church, located at 230 West South Street, Hillsboro.
Alzheimer’s Support
Group meetings
The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the
third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

The Hillsboro Eagles host bingo on Thursday nights. Doors open at 5:30

New Life Church and Ministries
hosts Blast into the Summer
New Life Church and Ministries, 6101 state Route 247, Hillsboro, is
having their first “Blast into the Summer” (BITS) Arts and Crafts Festival
on Saturday, June 2.
They will have games, a dunking booth, rides, prizes, arts and crafts,

New Directions
golf tournament June 16
New Directions, Greenfield’s community youth ministry program, will be
sponsoring a golf tournament on Saturday, June 16 at Buckeye Hills Country
Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m.; the shotgun start will be at 8 a.m.
Each team will have four players. The fee is $50 per player, which will
include the 18 holes of golf, cart, food, and prizes. Payment is due at the
time of registration. Teams are encouraged to register by June 1.

The Rocky Fork Lake/Rainsboro area has a new meeting of AA at Rainsboro
United Methodist Church, Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. In addition, there will
be Al-Anon support meetings Saturdays at the church.

The Highland County House of Prayer, Inc. will hold monthly board
meetings on the last Wednesday of each month. The meetings will take place

Flea markets at
Sardinia Veterans Park
A monthly flea market will be held at the Sardinia Veterans Park on the
first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., from May-Sept. 1. There
will not be a set rental fee; it will be by donation only. All donations
will be used to upgrade and maintain the Veterans Park. Anyone interested

Engineer’s Office
summer hours
The following are the summer hours for the County Engineer’s Office and
Highway Department. Effective through Oct. 4, the engineer’s office will be
working four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
After-hour emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the sheriff at
393-1421.
Vacation Bible School

Easton’s Purpose Run
June 9 at fairgrounds
Easton’s Purpose will hold Easton’s Run June 9 at the Highland County
Fairgrounds. Registration starts at 10 a.m., with the event kicking off at
noon. Bikes, classic cars or anyone wanting to participate in the event is
welcome to attend. There will be music, food, raffles and a 50/50 drawing.
All proceeds will go to Easton’s Purpose, a foundation created by family and
friends of Easton Williams because living with cerebral palsy should not

Greenfield community
yard sale June 8-9
Greenfield will be holding its communitywide yard sale on June 8-9. Yard
sales will be held at individual residences across the village. The hours
are from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on both days. Community walks in support and
preparation of the event are being scheduled. The business community is
invited to participate with sidewalk sales, discounts, opening their
restroom facilities to shoppers and sponsoring “park and shop” locations.
All shoppers are invited downtown for lunchtime entertainment.
Fall Creek Friends VBS June 2
Fall Creek Friends will have a one-day Vacation Bible School on
Saturday, June 2. It will be from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The theme will be “Joshua

St. Mary Catholic School in Hillsboro will be holding the annual Joe
Penn Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 23 at the Hillsboro Elks Golf

A fundraiser for Peter Pence, candidate for State Representative, will

The Elect Chad E. McConnaughey Campaign Committee would like to invite
everyone to a Fundraising Meet and Greet on July 21st at the VFW Outside

Youth Fishing Derby
at Cowan Lake
The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen will sponsor a Youth Fishing
Derby during the month of June. The derby is free and open to the public. No
pre-registration is required. Young people ages 3-17 may enjoy fishing at
Cowan Lake, and any fish caught by a youth during the June derby will be
measured and recorded at one of the following bait stores in the Cowan Lake
area: South Shore Marina, 7379 Route 730; The Fishing Pole, 5071 West Route
350; or Trula's General Store, 384 West Route 350.
Fish must be caught in Cowan Lake only. All applicable Ohio laws must be
obeyed. All youth 16 and older must have a valid Ohio fishing license.
Licenses can be purchased at the participating bait stores. For information,

Vacation Bible School
"Adventures on Promise Island" Vacation Bible School will be held at Union

Pathway to Fishing seminar June 30
The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen (CLASS) will present a Pathway to
Fishing seminar on Saturday, June 30. It is free and open to the public. The
fishing seminar features a pathway of hands-on stations that teach fish
identification, fishing basics, casting, angler ethics, safety and local
fishing information. This program is geared toward children adults with
little or no fishing experience. Children ages 3 to 8 must be accompanied by

Sinking Spring School
alumni dinner June 9
The annual Sinking Spring School alumni dinner will be held on Saturday,
June 9 at the Sinking Spring Community Center (the former school gymnasium).
The social hour is from 4-6 p.m. Dinner will be a catered buffet served at
6:30 p.m. The cost of the meal will be $12 per person, and reservations may
