Hillsboro Church of God, located at 5760 U.S. 62 south, will hold
Vacation Bible School May 28-June 1 from 6-8:30 p.m. for ages 2-13.
SATH poker run for
KAMP Dovetail May 19
SATH is proud to host its first Poker Run for KAMP Dovetail Saturday,
May 19. Registration is from 9-11 a.m. at Rocky Fork State Park Campgrounds
in Hillsboro. Participants may pre-register online at www.kampdovetail.com.
The Poker Run is a 100-mile ride. It will start and end at Rocky Fork
campgrounds. The cost is $15 per bike and $5 for passenger. The day will
conclude with a concert by Kelly Red and the Hammerheads, and a hog roast.

Classic Country Opry
upcoming shows
The Central Ohio Classic Country Opry will be returning to the Clay
Township Park (the old Buford School) the first and third Saturday of each
month. Shows include: May 19 – Terri Barnett and Rich Martin. Admission is
$8, and children under 12 are admitted free. Concessions are open throughout
the evening and the doors open at 6 p.m. The show is from 7-9:30 p.m.

• June 19 – Guest singers are Jenni Lyn and Rich Skaggs.
As always there will be refreshments and great music by the Central Ohio

Hillsboro-area AAUW
accepting scholarship
applications
The Hillsboro-area AAUW is currently accepting applications for the 2012
scholarships. The applicant must be a current resident of Highland County
and must have resided in Highland County for the last two years. The
scholarships are awarded to “non-traditional” female students whose
education has been interrupted or delayed. Applications are available at the
libraries in Highland County or any AAUW member. All applications must be

New Life Church and Ministries host

New Directions
golf tournament June 16
New Directions, Greenfield’s community youth ministry program, will be
sponsoring a golf tournament on Saturday, June 16 at Buckeye Hills Country
Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m.; the shotgun start will be at 8 a.m.
Each team will have four players. The fee is $50 per player, which will
include the 18 holes of golf, cart, food, and prizes. Payment is due at the
time of registration. Teams are encouraged to register by June 1.

A monthly flea market will be held at the Sardinia Veterans Park on the

summer hours
The following are the summer hours for the County Engineer’s Office and
Highway Department. Effective through Oct. 4, the engineer’s office will be
working four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
After-hour emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the sheriff at
393-1421.
Heritage Music Series Program May 19
The next Heritage Music Series Program at the Highland House Museum will
be held May 19 starting at 7:30 p.m. with appetizers and drinks. The concert
will feature vocal soloists and piano players from the HHS Music Department.

Youth Football league
The Hillsboro Youth Football league is currently looking for volunteer
coaches for levels at grades 3-6. Coaches must be able to attend scheduled
practices and games. Experience is preferred, but not required. Applications

Habitat for Humanity
bowl-a-thon May 19
A Bowl-A-Thon to benefit the Highland County Habitat for Humanity will
be held at Highland Lanes on Saturday, May 19 from 4-7 p.m. Open bowling is
$150 with up to five people per lane. There will be prizes and a silent
auction. The event is also sponsored by Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Brunswick and
PBA Tour. Donors may choose to buy a lane for $150, sponsor a lane for $100,

The Kiwanis Club of Washington Court House will present their 45th

Easton’s Purpose Run
June 9 at fairgrounds
Easton’s Purpose will hold Easton’s Run June 9 at the Highland County
Fairgrounds. Registration starts at 10 a.m., with the event kicking off at

welcome to attend. There will be music, food, raffles and a 50/50 drawing.
All proceeds will go to Easton’s Purpose, a foundation created by family and
friends of Easton Williams because living with cerebral palsy should not

The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield United Methodist
Church on Saturday, May 26. Serving will be from 4-5:30 p.m. The menu will

yard sale June 8-9
Greenfield will be holding its communitywide yard sale on June 8-9. Yard
sales will be held at individual residences across the village. The hours
are from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on both days. Community walks in support and
preparation of the event are being scheduled. The business community is
invited to participate with sidewalk sales, discounts, opening their
restroom facilities to shoppers and sponsoring “park and shop” locations.
All shoppers are invited downtown for lunchtime entertainment.

hosts Memorial Day events
Pricetown Church of Christ will hold Memorial Day events on May 28,
beginning with a march to the cemetery at 10 a.m. There will be a program at
the church at 11 a.m., followed by a community fellowship dinner from noon-2

Fairfield Fun Run

Small Town Sisters of Leesburg will sponsor the Fairfield Fun Run, a 5K
run/1 mile walk, on Saturday, May 19. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the
Leesburg Fire and Rescue Building. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Entry
fees are $15 for the 5K run and a T-shirt; $10 for the 5K walk and a

The Buford Cemetery will hold a Memorial Day service May 28 at 11 a.m.

Youth Fishing Derby
at Cowan Lake
The Cowan Lake Association of Sportsmen will sponsor a Youth Fishing
Derby during the month of June. The derby is free and open to the public. No
pre-registration is required. Young people ages 3-17 may enjoy fishing at
Cowan Lake, and any fish caught by a youth during the June derby will be
measured and recorded at one of the following bait stores in the Cowan Lake
area: South Shore Marina, 7379 Route 730; The Fishing Pole, 5071 West Route
350; or Trula's General Store, 384 West Route 350.
There will be six winners. Each winner will receive a $10 gift
certificate good at one of the bait stores. Prizes will go to the winner in
each of these six categories: biggest bluegill; biggest crappie; biggest
catfish; biggest other; most fish entered; and youngest fisherman (minimum
age 3 years, 0 months).
Fish must be caught in Cowan Lake only. All applicable Ohio laws must be
obeyed. All youth 16 and older must have a valid Ohio fishing license.
Licenses can be purchased at the participating bait stores. For information,
