Highland County Community Action Organization
Have you ever heard of Community Action? Do you know what Community Action is?
Do you know what Community Action does? Do you know where Community Action is?
If you answered "no" to one or more of these questions you are not alone, in fact you are in the majority. Many people living in the Highland County community for a number of years are unfamiliar with the Highland County Community Action Organization.
HCCAO is located at 1487 North High Street in Hillsboro. The mission statement of the organization is simply this: “Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. strives to empower individuals and families through opportunities and support to achieve their maximum potential.”
A community is made up of families and individuals and therefore a community can only reach its maximum potential if the families and individuals of that community are afforded the opportunities and support to reach their maximum potential.
Today, many people in the Highland County community have lost the support of a job they thought would always be there for them and opportunities to find another job are few and far between. Therefore many people who thought they would never need or qualify for the services of HCCAO are indeed both in need and do qualify.
All Community Action organizations are not the same. Highland County Community Action seeks to work in cooperation with other organizations in the community rather than in competition. With funding resources either drying up or being frozen, organizations must work together to make the most of the dollars available to the community.
Funding comes not only from outside of the community but also from donors within Highland County. These dollars are also limited requiring community organizations and groups to work as teams to maximize the potential for families and individuals.
The opportunities and support offered by HCCAO includes programs for the very young children through Early Head Start, to those in their golden years through Meals on Wheels and Senior Nutrition, and all ages in between. It is impossible to describe all that is offered at Highland County Community Action in the way of opportunities and support in one brief article.
If you would like to learn more about our services or perhaps how you can volunteer or donate to this organization, call Mark at 937-393-3458 or visit our website at www.hccao.org. Keep watching for more informative articles to come.
