After a snow-filled winter, what could be better than welcoming spring with a celebration of art and music, while learning something new?
On Saturday, March 19, visitors to the seventh annual Cabin Fever Arts Festival will have the opportunity to officially say goodbye to winter, while enjoying the display and sale of beautiful handmade items by members of the Appalachian Artisans Guild and select guest artisans. Festival goers will find unique examples of work in hand-woven and knitted textiles, ceramics, metal, jewelry, wooden toys, furniture, paintings, collectible teddy bears, glass and more.
Stitches will fly during the fellowship and sharing of ideas at a quilt show and demonstration featuring three local quilting groups: Bits and Pieces (Greenfield), Country Quilters (Hillsboro), and Highland County Quilters.
Their beautiful products will be on display in the Learning Center. In addition, the U. S. Grant Homestead Association will present a Civil War display celebrating the life and legacy of Ulysses S. Grant and the Brown County Civil War soldiers.
The group will have a room filled with photographs and displays of weapons, maps, equipment and food to illustrate the lifestyle, struggle, and accomplishments of the local Civil War soldier.
Local authors Frank Hedges and Dr. Rob Sharp will be on hand to entertain with stories and excerpts of their adventures.
Workshops will be offered in silver clay jewelry, soap making, how to write a book and get published, beginning dulcimer, cooking with lavender and broom making. Most workshop participation entails a nominal fee. Call (937) 587-2394 with questions or to register for the workshops.
Enjoy warm, catered concessions while listening to live music, provided by several local groups. Cabin Fever is a presentation of the Appalachian Artisans Guild. It will be held on March 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fincastle (South) Campus of Southern State Community College located at 12681 U.S. 62, 1.5 miles north of S.R. 32, or 18 miles south of Hillsboro. Admission is free.
