The Brush & Palette Art Guild held its 53rd annual art show at Southern State Community College June 26 and 27. Forty-three members both
non-professional and professional entered works of art judged by Gerry Enrico. Mr. Enrico graduated from the University of Northern Philippines
and teaches art at The Gallery At 409, Point Pleasant.
Mr. Enrico awarded first, second and third place ribbons to many in the categories of oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings as well as drawing in pastel, color pencil, graphite, ink and charcoal. The open category included collage, mixed media, encaustics and miniatures. The theme for 2010 was "Bag Art", with first place going to Mary Reed, second to Sandy Pence, third to Connie Barrett and honorable mention awarded to Sue Lamke and Elaine Balsley.
Judge Enrico also chose the following winners, Professional Best of Show; Connie Barrett and Professional Reserve Best of Show; Sandy Pence.
The Julia Barthel award given to a professional artist in the watercolor floral category was awarded to Jean Malicoat. Non-Professional Best of Show and Reserve Best of Show was awarded to Donna Schwarz. The Violet Linton Award, a special merit to an artist in the non-professional Oil/Acrylic landscape category, was received by Mary Wilkin. The People's Choice award was given to Helen Horner of Hillsboro. Best of Division, Professional in Oil/Acrylic, Drawing and Open categories was awarded to Sandy Pence. Connie Barrett received the Best of Division award in watercolor, Hal Harvey in Pastel and Jean Malicoat for Color Pencil. Best of Division, Non-Professional in Oil/Acrylic was awarded to Helen Horner, Trisha Wiget received the Best of Divivsion, Non-Professional award in Watercolor, Donna Schwarz for Pastel and Color Pencil, Mary Wilkin in Drawing and Judy Mason in the Open Category.
These awards were provided by many generous show sponsors from Hillsboro, Lynchburg, Batavia, West Union, Greenfield, Wilmington, Winchester, Manchester, New Vienna, Sardinia, Seaman, Lees Creek, Loveland and Highland.
