Bicycle tour benefits Special Olympics

Grand Lodge (Free and Accepted Masons) Ohio and a Special Olympics "Bicycle Ambassador" have announced plans and an itinerary for a June bicycle tour.
In 2008, distance cyclist Brother James "Spudd" Sasak made a pledge to a Woods County Special Olympian that he would bicycle to all 88 Ohio county seats to raise awareness and funds for the state's finest athletes. In 2009, during a 1,102-mile ride, Sasak visited 37 counties around Ohio's perimeter, and last year, his 802-mile adventure took him to 31 more county seats.
This year's ride will mark the culmination of his promise as he visits the remaining 20 county seats located in the central portion of the state.
Brother Sasak joined Lakeshore Lodge #307 in 2007 and became interested in its support of Ohio Special Olympics almost immediately.
"This year's plan is the arrange a series of 6 p.m. visits at the steps of each county courthouse with representatives from the local Special Olympics teams and my Masonic brothers," Sasak said. "It has been my experience during the previous rides that with the support of my brothers again this year, I can continue to turn each local media interview into a huge wave of support and interest for Ohio's greatest athletes and the craft of Freemasonry."
As in past years, Sasak's ride will conclude in Columbus, where he will join his Masonic brothers to be a part of the Special Olympics Ohio State Games' opening ceremonies on Friday, June 24.
Right Worshipful Brother Mike Cecil, chairman of the Grand Lodge Special Olympics Committee, stated, "It is my hope that the Fraternity will once again come out and support Jim during this year's ride. We will keep everyone updated on his progress via his daily blog on our website, www.freemason.com."
