Adena heart failure groups plan July 5 meeting
Ken Knipp, PhD, BCPS, a pharmacist and pharmacy clinical coordinator at Adena Health System, will be the guest speaker at the second meeting of the Adena Heart Failure Group.
The group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 5 in the PACCAR Medical Education Center, on the campus of Adena Medical Center, in Chillicothe. Knipp will talk about heart failure medications.
The group is holding a series of meetings this year to educate those with heart failure about the condition, as well as to share ideas to improve quality of life.
It's estimated that nearly 6 million Americans are living with heart failure, and more than 600,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Heart failure is a condition in which a problem with the heart impairs its ability to supply blood flow to meet the body's needs.
The meetings are open to anyone afflicted with heart failure and those who assist them. Guest speakers will discuss a wide range of topics at each of the upcoming four meetings.
Other meetings will be held from 6 to 7: 30 p.m. Oct. 4 and Dec. 6 in the PACCAR center. Dinner is provided and there are door prizes.

Consider volunteering at Adena
Interested in volunteering some of your time to help others? Adena Health System is looking for volunteer patient ambassadors and greeters to help in the medical center.
Volunteer patient ambassadors assist nursing units by providing comfort care to patients and their families. That includes helping with bed controls, phones and TVs, as well as reading to patients and simply taking time to talk to patients.
Meanwhile, greeters are needed in the reception area of the Women and Children¹s Center. Along with greeting guests, they answer phones and help in other ways.
To be eligible, you must be at least 17 years old, and you must be interviewed, complete an application, undergo reference checks and participate in an orientation. Volunteer patient ambassadors also must attend a training program.
Volunteers typically work from 8 a.m. to noon, noon to 4 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, contact Cindy Drummond, Adena's Director of Volunteer Services, at 740-779-7927.
