21st Luminaria Night to Be Held Dec. 13

Leesburg, December 13, 2009 will be Luminaria Night in the Village of Leesburg. Lighting of the traditional Luminaria candles will begin at 5 p.m. Village shops and Businesses plan "Open House" 5:30 to 7 p.m., closing in time for villagers to attend the Combined Church Service at the Leesburg Church of Christ at 7:30 PM. The six graders at Fairfield Middle School have been writing essays to be judged by the Fairfield High School English classes.  The winners of the essay contest will be crowned King and Queen at the Leesburg Library at 5:45 p.m.  Santa is schedule to make a visit to the Leesburg Post Office during downtown open houses.   The Fairfield High School Choir will sing at the church service sponsored by the Fairfield Ministerial Association.

Families in the Fairfield School District are encouraged to decorate their home using the luminaria candles in their decorations.  If you are outside of the Leesburg Village and want to enter the House Decoration Contest call 780-6140.  Homes within the Village using Luminaria Candles are automatically entered in the contest.  Lions District Officers will judge the competition and choose two winners, one in town and one out of town. Each winner will receive $50.
The Leesburg Lions Club will be selling Luminaries Kits (20 candles, 20 white bags) at the Leesburg Federal Savings Bank on Friday December 11th from 2-7 p.m. and Saturday December 12th from 9-6 p.m.  Advance orders can be sent to Leesburg Lions at PO Box 324, Leesburg, OH 45135.  Cost of a Luminaries Kit is $6.00.
Quoting from past 6th grade essay "the glistening glow of the candles that line the sidewalks, being with family and friends, the smell of hot chocolate, eating cookies and other goodies, seeing the Christmas lights and decorations all combine to give you a warm Christmas feeling that you don't want to miss."
