Problem Gambling Network of Ohio receives national recognition from American Gambling Awards
Problem Gambling Network of Ohio (PGNO) has been selected as a finalist in the 2023 American Gambling Awards for the Responsible Gaming category, gaining national recognition for their advocacy and rulemaking efforts in Ohio.
Every year, the Gambling.com Group hosts the award ceremony to recognize those across the country who have made a significant impact on the online casino and sports betting industry. Nominees include online sportsbooks, company executives, policymakers and regulators for a range of awards.
PGNO received a nomination for the Responsible Gaming Award, for which the winner must demonstrate “outstanding efforts to identify problem gamblers early, prevent problem gamblers from transacting, to ensure players are dealt with in a fair and responsible manner, and to protect children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gaming,” according to the organization’s webpage.
This announcement is particularly well timed, as September is Responsible Gaming Education Month. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, PGNO has made significant contributions to protect players and expand the support service workforce.
With legalized sports betting beginning in Ohio on Jan. 1, 2023 heavy legislative efforts also went into effect. PGNO worked to ensure that responsible gaming measures were included, such as two percent of sports betting revenue being transferred to the Problem Sports Gaming Fund, placing restrictions on advertisements on College and University campuses, and requiring Problem Gambling Helpline information in all marketing efforts.
“It is an honor to be a finalist for the Responsible Gaming Award,” says Derek Longmeier, executive director of PGNO. “We are committed to the gambling support service system and it is truly rewarding to be recognized for our contributions in this space.”
Winners for each of the 11 award categories will be announced in late September.
