Energy boom: A testament to Ohio’s innovation and workforce
To the editor:
For decades Ohio has been emerging as a leader in energy but the recent surge in oil production, alongside the state’s established natural gas resources, underscores the state's pivotal role in the national energy landscape. Ohio’s natural gas and oil industry is not only driving energy independence for our country but fostering economic growth at home.
Oil production in Ohio hit a record 27.8 million barrels in 2023, up 41% from 2022, according to researchers at Cleveland State University (CSU). This surge has propelled Ohio into the ranks of the top 10 oil-producing states in the nation.
This level of energy production has led to one of the largest investments in Ohio history, CSU found more than $103 billion has flowed into Ohio through the natural gas and oil industry. The state has emerged as an energy hotspot, driving job creation and growth across the region.
With record-breaking production, historic investment and a strong workforce Ohio’s future is hopeful for not only those who live and work here but our nation that is coming to rely on our natural resources.
