William J. Herald, 86, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at his residence.  

He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late William Jackson and Louisa (Keaton) Herald.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, and had retired from General Motors after 32 years of service.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberlee Bauer of Hillsboro and Terry Pollock and her husband, David, of Jamestown; a son, Marty Herald of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Missy), Susan (Jason), Stephanie, Keith (Andrea) George, Nicole (Ben) and Brannon; seven great-grandchildren, Cameron, William, Autumn, Kalebb, Noah, Shanon and Alex.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Alberta Leone Herald, who passed away July 21, 1988; and a granddaughter, Jillian Herald.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 13 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.  

Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow at the High Top Cemetery in Samantha.  

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home.
