Virgil Eugene Winland, Sr., 75, of Greenfield, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.
He was born Feb. 28, 1936 in Hocking County to the late Charles F. and Mary Catherine (Archer) Winland.
He retired from Johnson Controls, Inc. in Greenfield and was a member of the Sugar Run Community Church.
On June 24, 1996, he married the former Dianna Kirsch, who survives. Also surviving are five children, Benjamin Winland of Greenfield, Edith Hafer of South Salem, Mary Ellen (Bob) Hafer of New Petersburg, Virgil E. (Erica) Winland, Jr. of Greenfield and Ginger Winland of Bainbridge; six step-children, Dion (Kathy) Poole of Greenfield, Dwayne (Karen) Poole of South Salem, Angel Poole of Greenfield, Kimberly (Jerry) Allen of Greenfield, Angie (Danny) Brown of Frankfort and Robin (Brian) Price of Bainbridge; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Bales of Lancaster; a brother, Dale Winland of Chillicothe; and his beloved pets.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Anderson-Strueve Funeral Home of Greenfield. The Revs. Arthur Artrip and Larry Leisure will officiate, and burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Monday.[[In-content Ad]]
