Thomas Edwin Braley, 86, of the Laurels Nursing Home in Hillsboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday afternoon, April 17, 2010 after a four-year battle with heart disease.
Tom was born May 27, 1923 in Crab Orchard, Ky., the son of the late Ralph E. & Nora Lee (Denny) Braley.
Tom worked in Cincinnati most of his life, spending 17 years at the Stearns and Foster Company in Lockland, where he was the maintenance supervisor, and retiring from Steelcraft Mfg. in Blue Ash in 1988. Tom was also a Baptist preacher, having pastored at several churches including the Highpoint Baptist Church from about 1957 until 1967. Tom had a great passion for God's Word and for gospel music, which he loved to sing.
Surviving are his son, Wendell (Debbie) Braley of Cincinnati; two daughters, Rosemary (Dean) Kimberly of Hillsboro and Charlene (Raymond) Benedict of West Chester; two granddaughters, Jennifer Braley of Cincinnati and Shana (Kevin) Campbell of Hillsboro; a great-granddaughter, Emily Faith Campbell; a brother, Foster (Sylvia) Braley, of Milford; and a sister, Alberta Rogers, of Pleasant Plains, Ohio. He was a step-grandfather to four and a step-great-grandfather to 12 loved ones, all of whom survive him.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Molly Angela (Pittman) Braley; two brothers, Bradford Braley and John Braley; and his sister, Josephine Gooch.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home at 138 East Main Street in Hillsboro. His beloved nephew, Rev. Dean Gooch, will officate the funeral service with his son-in-law, Rev. Dean Kimberly officiating the graveside service at Union Cemetery near Hillsboro. The graveside funeral service will immediately follow the funeral home service.
