Ruth E. Hoggatt, 97, of Hillsboro, formerly of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Highland District Hospital.
She was born May 19, 1914 in Wabash County, Ind., the daughter of the late Lewis and Alta Hoggatt Hummel.
She was a member of the Pearl Street Church of Christ in Lynchburg. Ruth was born and raised in Wabash County, Ind., graduating from Lafontaine High School in 1933. She then married and moved to the Lynchburg area, where she raised her family. After raising her family and retiring, she moved and lived in Wildwood, Fla. for 20 years before returning to Lynchburg to be near her family. Ruth had recently attended her 78th class reunion from Lafontaine High School. She dearly loved all of her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Betty and her husband Bob Mount of Lynchburg and Myrna Human of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Daryl (Lori) Mount of Lynchburg, Dennis (Colleen) Mount of Lynchburg, Dana (Toni) Mount of Lynchburg, Denise (Gary) Scruggs of Kannapolis, N.C., Cristie Sattler of Scottsdale, Ariz., Melissa Hoggatt of Maineville, and Jessica (Luis) Urbina of Germantown, Md.; great-grandchildren, Andrew (Trish) Mount, Aaron (Hillary) Mount, Tara (Mauricio) Hernandez, Ben Scruggs, Shawn Mount, Shane (Jenna) Mount, Eric (Nicole) Mount, Rachel (Josh) Steed, Robin Lashley, Justin (Jennifer) Barnes, Damian McDaniel, Christopher McDaniel, Katy Sattler, Jennifer Sattler, Liam Urbina, and Christian Urbina; great-great-grandchildren, Braeden, Kaitlyn, Colton, and Bella Mount, Kailyn and Isaac Steed, Jacob, Eva and Jesse Hernandez and Blake, Sierra, and Savannah Barnes; close family friend Kelly McFadden of Hillsboro; and many friends at Lynchburg Commons, Pearl Street Church of Christ and the Lynchburg Community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Byrl Hoggatt on July 7, 1986; a son, Robert W. Hoggatt; and two sisters, Beulah Lake and Edna Kemmer.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Daryl Mount and Paul Carpenter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Troutwine Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
