Robert J. “Bob” Karnes

Robert J. “Bob” Karnes, 88, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Cedarvale Commons in Washington C.H.
 
He was born on Nov. 2, 1937, in Greenfield, the son of George J “Bill” and Betty Jane (Junk) Karnes.   
 
He was a member of the Falls Creek Friends Church and long-term employee of Karnes Market.

He is survived by three daughters, Amanda Williamson of Wilmington, Bonnie (Ronald) Smith of Greenfield and Melissa Thorne of Greenfield; eight grandchildren, Rachel (Scott) Sellman, Jamie (Beth) Miller, Tiffany (Issac) Miller, Chad (Lori) Smith, Lani (Chad) Gill, Catherine (Charlton) Braganza, Robert Thorne and Emma (Doug) Gall; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his mother, Jane Karnes of Hillsboro; two sisters, Kay Karnes of Hillsboro and Sue Frost of Chillicothe; stepchildren, Susan Utley, Charlotte (Ron) Branscome, Debbie (Terry) Christy and Ron (Peggy) Shafer; numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Tom McCoy of Cedarville.  
 
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane McCoy, on Nov. 26, 1984; second wife, Ruth (Shafer) Karnes, on June 27, 2019; father, George “Bill” Karnes; one son-in-law, David Thorne; one niece, Rosie McCoy; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Karnes and James Frost.
 
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 6 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Scott Latimer officiating. Burial will follow in the Bainbridge Cemetery.   
Visitation will be 10-11:30 a.m. Monday, July 6 at the funeral home.
