Robert "Bob" Yankie, 83, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at his home.

He was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Greenfield, the son of the late Walter and Essie Spriggs Yankie.

Bob retired from the U.S. Shoe Factory after 47 of years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the submarine USS Sea Fox.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia "Polly" Yankie, who passed away on March 31, 2009. Bob and Polly married on Christmas Eve, 1948 in Greenup, Ky. His son Michael Yankie also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sons Patrick (Robin) Yankie of Radnor and Kacy Yankie of Greenfield; one daughter, Kristal (Randy) Hambrick of Fairfield; five grandchildren, Paul (Jessica) Yankie of Cincinnati, Joel Yankie of Columbus, Dana Yankie of Radnor, and Rex and Ross Hambrick of Fairfield; one great-grandson, Hutton Yankie of Cincinnati; two special friends, Jackie McCarty and Emily Wright; two brothers, Charles (Pat) Yankie of Lebanon and Dean (Marcella) Yankie of Washington C.H.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, wife, and son, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard, Walter (Pete), William, Willard (Earl) and Donald Yankie; and two sisters, Margaret Sword and Louise Robinette.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday.
