Myrtle P. Stephens, 97, of the Marshall Community, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 at the home of Dean and Janie Shoemaker, lovingly surrounded by family members.
Myrtle was born to the late Robert and Nellie (Gilfillan) Anderson on Feb. 10, 1916 in Lebanon, Ind.
Myrtle was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church and charter member of Marshall United Methodist Women.
She is survived by six children, Janie (Dean) Shoemaker, Robert (Gloria) Chestnut, Libby (John) Kidder and Frank (Debbie) Stephens all of Hillsboro, Mike Stephens of Greenfield and Nancy Pestian of Kettering; 21 grandchildren, Lisa (Danny) Rockwell, James N. (Sylvia) Chestnut II, Michael Parziale, Lloyd (Barbara) Shoemaker, Susan (Bob) Roades, David (Nancy) Shoemaker, Lora (Mark) Harp, Sonia (Ned) Thompson, Pam (Mike) Harp, Teresa (Chris) Fife, Ginny (Tim) King, John (Terri) Kidder, Tammy Lusk, Chad (Tabitha) Lusk, Carrie (Bryan) Hainline, Katie (Matt) Hilgeman, Ryan (Stephanie) Stephens, Phillip Stephens, Aaron Stephens, Alyssa Pestian and Nellie Pestian; 35 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd Chestnut and her second husband, Orville Stephens; three children, James N. Chestnut, Nellie Lusk and Thomas Stephens; son-in-law, David Pestian; two grandchildren, Roxann Murphy and Todd Lusk; and one great-grandchild, Collin Hainline.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at the Marshall United Methodist Church. Rev. Janie Shoemaker, Rev. Debra Ketcham and Pastor Lloyd Shoemaker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro and Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the Marshall United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marshall United Methodist Church, c/o Gloria Flannery, 11398 St. Rt. 506, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
