Maurice Thatcher, 85, of Seaman, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at his residence.

He was born in Adams County, on Nov. 22, 1925, the youngest son of the late Joseph and Anna (Malone) Thatcher.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Anna Ruth Thatcher, who passed away in 1990; three brothers; and three sisters.

Maurice was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, in which he was a Prisoner of War in Germany. He was also a member of the Seaman American Legion Post 633 and Scioto County Dairy Association.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Stephen and Carol Thatcher and Jeffrey and Christina Thatcher all of Seaman; four daughters and sons-in-law; Karen and David Waits of Lynchburg, Joyce and DeLloyd Brown of Seaman, Jennifer and Michael Fischer of Batavia, and Cathy and Steve Calvert of Seaman; two brothers, Truman Thatcher of Cincinnati and Francis Thatcher of New Mexico; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6 at 2 p.m. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman, with Chris Gobin officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery. Military Rites will be given by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
