Martha Joyce Wilbanks, 73, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep Jan. 3, 2013 with her daughter by her side after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 26, 1939 in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Daniel and Selma Shy Farmer.

She spent her childhood in the hills of Pike County. During high school, she moved to Lynchburg, where she met her high school "sweetheart" and future husband. Martha and John Wilbanks were married June 7, 1958.

She will be missed by her husband of 54 years, John Wilbanks; daughter, Kimberly (Charles) Wilbanks Stoltz; and daughter-in-law, Christine Wilbanks, all of Lynchburg.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her dear son, Timothy Wilbanks; sister, Mary Catherine "Katie" Farmer Bagford; and brothers, Robert and Daniel Farmer.

Martha was an active member of the Lynchburg United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities, most recently as Communion Steward and Trustee. She spent many years working at the Wilbanks Pharmacy and Liberty Savings Bank; however, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandsons and watching them grow up. She will be greatly missed by Linus Stoltz, Noah Stoltz, Quinn Stoltz and Tristan Wilbanks, all of Lynchburg. She was very proud of them and was affectionately known as "Big G." While in the banking industry, she met her three best friends, who are known by many as the Golden Girls: Barbie, Rosie and Di. They never missed a bank holiday shopping excursion.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at the Lynchburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mac Nicholson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 until the time of service at 2 p.m. at the church.

The Davis-Turner Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is serving the family.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Lynchburg Clay Band Boosters, P.O. Box 515, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142, or the Lynchburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 402, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142.
