Marie Burns Steward

Marie Burns Steward, 82, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at The Laurels of Hillsboro.
She was born July 6, 1931 in Clay County, Ky., the daughter of the late John L. and Nellie (Smith) Mills.
Mrs. Steward worked as a nurse’s aide for 32 years and nine of those years she worked at Heartland of Hillsboro. She was a member of the Ervin Road Baptist Church, the VFW Post #9094 Auxiliary and the Highland County Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband, George Steward, whom she married on June 2, 1989; one son, Leslie (Debbie) Burns of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Emily Burns of Washington, D.C., Jason (Brandie) Burns of Hillsboro, James (Autumn Schrader) Burns of Cincinnati, Johnnie (Gina) Burns of Steele, Mo. and Jill Burns of Hillsboro; eight great grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Sherry (James) Mills of New Market; a daughter-in-law, Emma Burns of Washington, D.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Nellie Ruth Burns and Johnnie Burns; one great-grandchild, Johnnie Christian Burns, Jr.; five brothers, Leonard, Tolman, Jeff, Hayner and Dave Mills; three sisters, Elva Jones, Prudy Smith and Elsie Witt.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, April 15 from 5-8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home. VFW Auxiliary services will be held on Tuesday evening following visitation.
