John Thomas Daniels, 82, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Grant Medical Center of Columbus.
He was born Aug. 30, 1928 in Greenfield, the son of the late Earnest A. and Laura (Douglass) Daniels.
He was a lifetime farmer and sat on the Southern Hills Community Bank Board (formerly Leesburg Federal Savings) for many years. He was co-owner and operator of the Daniels Brothers Cigar Store and Pool Room. He was a 1946 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School and attended the Ohio State University. He was a member of F.O.E. #1325, Hillsboro Elks Lodge 361, Highland County Cattlemen's Association, and McClain Tigers Boosters Club as well as the First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Tribbie) Daniels, whom he married May 3, 1953; two sons, David (Karen) Daniels of Greenfield and John R. (Isabel) Daniels of Bristol, R.I.; one daughter, Catherine Rivas of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, Stacy (Adan) Espinoza of Cincinnati, Zane (Carrie) Daniels of Columbus, Brook (Eli) Orth of Cincinnati, Bryce (Cleny) Rooks of Hillsboro, Luis Rivas of Greenfield, Nick Rivas of Greenfield, and Ryan Daniels of Bristol, R.I.; three great-grandchildren, Elena, Alex, and Adan; several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Betty Daniels of Greenfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Daniels, and two sisters, Rosemary Mertz and Phyllis Snoddy.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at the First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield with Rev. Terry Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery. A visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 15 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with veterans appreciation service to be held at 8 p.m.
