John Robert Buck, 80, of Greenfield, died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Veterans Home at the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe.
He was born Oct. 21, 1930 in Ross County to the late Dwight and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Beechler) Buck.
He was a retired business owner and auto mechanic of the West End Sunoco in Greenfield and a proud volunteer for many years at the Greenfield Fire Department and also a proud Marine Corps. veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
On April 12, 1955, he married his wife of 56 years, Betty Jean Wheaton, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Cheryl "Cheri" Buck and Tara (Kevin) Barton, both of Greenfield; two granddaughters, Katlynn Hammond and Breanna Barton, both of Greenfield; three step-grandsons Justin Barton of Greenfield and Kasey and Joshua Barton of Bakersfield, Calif.; and one step-great granddaughter, Grayson "Bella" Barton of Greenfield; a sister, Mary Martindale of Chillicothe; four brothers, Paul (Maria) Buck of New Jersey, Dwight (Jean) Buck of Florida, Herbert (Betty) Buck and Bill (Karen) Buck, both of Greenfield; a sister-in-law, Ann Buck; several nieces and nephews; and several lifelong friends and fishing buddies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Buck and Gary "Tom" Buck, and a brother-in-law, John Martindale.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Anderson-Strueve Funeral Home in Greenfield. Danny Dodds will officiate and burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a Veterans Appreciation Service at 8 p.m.
