John A. Rhodes, 87, of Bainbridge, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Pike County on July 16, 1925, the son of Austin and Lou Anna (Curp) Rhodes.
John retired from the Waddell Company, a division of Ghent Manufacturing Company of Greenfield, after 29 years of service. He served in General Patton’s army during World War II and fought at the Battle of the Bulge, earning a bronze star for heroic service. He was a member of CCCU Church of Cynthiana, where he faithfully served as the second elder and song leader until his health no longer permitted.
He married the love of his life, Opal L. (Forsythe) Rhodes, on Dec. 6, 1950, and she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Bob (Joyce) Rhodes of Leesburg, Jim (Nancy) Rhodes of Greenfield and Tom (Tammy) Rhodes of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Angie, Doug (Amanda), Ross (Jessica), Tyler and Trista; two great-grandchildren, Renaylyn and R.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Nelson, Harold, Ernest, Donald and Charlie; one sister, Elsie Rhodes; one daughter-in-law, Cathy Rhodes; and both parents.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 at the CCCU Church of Cynthiana with Brother Terry Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Bainbridge Cemetery with military rites to be provided by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Veterans Appreciation Service to begin at 8 p.m.
