John E. Risley, Sr., 78, of Hillsboro, near the Cynthiana Community, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born October 15, 1934 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of the late Clyde P. and Martha H. Miller Risley.
John was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and could be seen mowing just about every day; he liked working in his shop building bird houses; fishing and bird watching. He also enjoyed playing games on his computer; he was sports fan, and an avid follower of the Cincinnati Reds. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna Rachel Hutchison Risley, to who he married May 31, 1955 in Liberty, Indiana; daughters, Martha Risley and Linda Risley both of Springfield, Judy (Don) Griffith of Hillsboro, and Patti Risley of Leesburg; son John (Sheila) Risley, Jr. of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Sam Risley, Deedra (Jeremiah) Morris, Evan Risley, Emily Wisecup, and Grant Wisecup; and his “Best Friend” Scooter. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one grandson, Steven Risley; and two brothers, William and Frank Risley.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
Military honors will be accorded by the Highland County Honor Guard following services at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
