John "Ben" Houser, 70, of Mount Orab, died June 1, 2011 in Batavia.
He was born Jan. 7, 1941 in Moscow, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph Wile and Madeline Benton Houser.
Mr. Houser graduated from Moscow High School in 1958. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Miami University of Oxford, Ohio and graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Law with a doctorate of law. He was a practicing attorney from 1970-2008. He also served as the vice president of H&G Nursing Homes; the president of the Mount Orab Port Authority; and treasurer of the Mount Orab Lions Club. He served on the following boards: Ohio Academy of Nursing Homes, Solid Waste Board of Brown County, Southern State Community College, Brown County General Hospital and Brown County Board of Health. He was the former Mount Orab Village Solicitor, former president of the Brown County Democrat Club and former president of the Ohio Board of MRDD. He attended Fairview Church.
He is survived by his partner, Jenny Conrad of Mount Orab; his children, John B. (Jennifer) Houser II of Batavia and Ann M. (Jeffrey Stroop) Houser of Amelia; his grandchildren, Trevor W. Houser and Benton T. Stroop; and his brother, Ralph F. Houser of Bethel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Redmon Houser, and his sister, Peggy Hess.
A visitation will be held 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at Megie Funeral Home, 104 Spice Street, Mount Orab.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Megie Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Mount Orab Cemetery in Green Township.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Mount Orab Lions Club or the Mount Orab Life Squad.
