Jeanne E. Polstra, 64, of the community of New Market, died Tuesday evening, May 24, 2011 at her residence.
She was born Jan. 20, 1947 in Lafayette, Ind., the daughter of Russel Snyder and the late Mary L. (Miller) Snyder.
She was a 1966 graduate of the Purdue University School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse with Highland District Hospital and Highland County WIC and had recently become a Certified Lactation Consultant. She was a member of the Sardinia United Methodist Church and was a staff member and volunteer with Kamp Dovetail for many years.
In addition to her father, she is survived by seven children, Joy Lynn Polstra, Jon A. Polstra and his wife Laura, Jenna Lee Winters and her husband Jay, Jill A. Kelch and her husband Brent, Juli Anna Polstra, Jayne Evangeline Rhoads and her husband Ronnie and Jessica Lauren Polstra, all of Hillsboro; her father-in-law, Carl Polstra of Kings, Ill.; 14 grandchildren, Ryan Polstra, Lydia Polstra, Caleb Tong, Joseph Winters, Chelsea Winters, Andrea Kelch, Wesley Kelch, Journey Rhoads, Quinn Pickering-Polstra, Zebadiah Pickering-Polstra, Gideon Pickering-Polstra, Duncan Pickering-Polstra, Elena Pickering-Polstra and Zane David Pickering-Polstra; four brothers, Gary (Beth) Snyder of Seymour, Ind. and Lynn Snyder, Mark Snyder and Monte Snyder, all of Lafayette; two sisters, Carol Snyder and Gail Snyder; as well as nieces and nephews Megan White, Erin Bowman, Bevin Snyder, Christopher Snyder and Kit Snyder.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Dr. Jay Robert Polstra, D.V.M., on Dec. 28, 1997; a granddaughter, Sorcha Pickering-Polstra; and her mother-in-law, Eloise Polstra.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Sardinia United Methodist Church. Pastor Giles Hoover will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Market Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
