Jean Young, 72, of Hillsboro, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2010, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 19, 1938, in Marion, N.C., a daughter of the late Garland and Pauline (Morgan) Finley.
She was a member of the Samantha Freewill Baptist Church and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
On March 10, 1953, in Spartanburg, S.C., she married her husband of 57 years, Charles Young, who survives.
She is also survived by three children, Dennis Young of Hillsboro, David Young and his wife Janice of Rockwood, Tenn., and Cheryl Collins and her husband Dennis of Hillsboro; a “special” daughter, Tammy Lower of Jeffersonville; six grandchildren, Mary Beth (Brad) Sonner of Hillsboro, Josh (Anneka) Collins of Hillsboro, Tiffany (fiancé Shawn Workman) Collins of Hillsboro, Robert (Anna) Young of Wilmington, Jeremy Collins of Hillsboro, and James Young of Hillsboro; a special grandson, Justin Steele of Macarthur; nine great-grandchildren, Sheyenne Sonner, Gatlynn Sonner, Avrynne Sonner, Kieran Young, David Young, Riley Buzard-Collins, Dalayna Collins, Raeden Workman, and Paysen Collins; three sisters, Louise (Ray) Morgan, Wilma (Ralph) McKinney, and Judy (Roger) Arrowood, all of Marion, N.C.; a brother, Doyle (Jan) Finley, of Marion, N.C.; as well as special friends Carol Setty and Liz Slater, both of Hillsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Finley; a sister, Carolyn Mitchell; and a great-granddaughter, Brookelyn Young-Fraley.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 at the Samantha Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Wiley Perkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at the Samantha Freewill Baptist Church and on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at the church.
