James J. Lunsford
James J. Lunsford, 60, of Martinsville, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the Eastgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born April 12, 1966 in Wilmington, the son of Linda Edgington Lunsford of Martinsville and the late Clarence Lunsford.
James was retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service, serving in the Iraq War and in Kuwait. He later served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. James had also worked as a corrections officer at the Lebanon Correctional Facility and had worked for the Bundy Company in Sabina and Washington Court House and Wells Manufacturing in New Vienna.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Lunsford of Martinsville; one sister, Pam (Randy) Whalen of Martinsville; two nieces, Amber Jones and Tiffany Whalen; three great-nieces, Arihanna Johnson, Skyler Galyean and Alexandria Dixon; three great-nephews, Clayton Jones, Ethan Jones and Tyler Jones; seven aunts, Carolyn Storer of Washington Court House, Mary Cowell of Indiana, Charlene McClanahan of Blanchester, Helen Rayburn of Clarksville, Vickie Setty and Sue Roush of Wilmington and Jane Roberts of Highland.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by five uncles, Ronald Edgington, Terry Edgington, Howard Lunsford, Ben Lunsford and Earl Lunsford; and one aunt, Anna Margaret Burnett.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, July 29 at the Martinsville IOOF Cemetery. Pastor Rich Boll will officiate. Military honors will be presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard.
