Helen J. Hise, 79, of Hillsboro died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at the Crestwood Nursing Center.

She was born Aug. 29, 1933 in Hillsboro, the daughter of the late John and Minnie Thompson Cox.

Mrs. Hise had been a waitress for several restaurants in Hillsboro in her early years; she had worked for the Hercules Trouser Company and help start and worked for the original Kroger Store in Hillsboro.

In the 1960s, she decided to go to nursing school and became a nurse and worked for several nursing homes in Hillsboro, Washington C.H. and Wilmington. In Hillsboro, she had worked for the Crestwood Nursing Center as the third shift supervisor. She had retired from Highland District Hospital after over 20 years of service. She loved nursing and caring for people.

She was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, the Highland County Senior Citizens, Highland County Historical Society, L.P.N.A.O. for over 35 years, an associate member of the N.A.P.N.E.S., a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1161 Auxiliary and a member of the VFW Post 9094 Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hise Rankin and Sheila Hise Stroup of Hillsboro; one son, Daryl (Diane) Hise of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one grandson, Jerry Stroup II of Hillsboro; four granddaughters, Jeanie Rankin of Hillsboro, Monica Rankin Brown of Wilmington, Heather Rankin of Hillsboro and Janet Hise of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Cortney, Riley and Grace Brown and Joshua Stroup; three sisters, Gladys Rader, Dorothy Arledge and Pauline (Wayne) Arledge of Hillsboro; three brothers, Robert Cox of Hillsboro, Dale (Wilma) Cox of Hillsboro and Donnie (Angel) Cox of Wilmington; a special friend, Katie Morgan of Piketon; a special nephew, Ron (Jayne) Cox of Hillsboro; and several additional nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hise, on April 17, 2008; one son, Roger Hise; two brothers, Paul and George Cox; two sisters, Nellie Smith and Carolyn Wooton; and a special aunt, Ruth Thompson Rhoades.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Dunkard Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from noon-2 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
