George William Ritchey, 60, of Greenfield, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 26, 2011 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Franklin County in Columbus on Sept. 10, 1950, he was the son of George Landon Ritchey and Edna Viola (Stoneburner) Robbins.
He was a 1968 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School. George served in the United States Navy from 1968 through 1972. He earned his associate's degree in public safety/EMS from Columbus State in 2002. He earned a bachelor's degree in public safety management from Franklin University in 2008. He retired from the Ohio Department of Corrections. He was passionate bout the field of EMS, working over the years as an EMT-Paramedic and as an instructor. He was a member of the American Legion and USS Little Rock Association.
On Feb. 9, 1973, he married Barbara Crago, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Nathaniel (Nichole) Ritchey of Greenfield and a daughter, Miranda (Eric) Wise of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Landon and Kayla Ritchey and Robert and Abby Wise; one sister, Freida (Ted) Hall of Columbus; two brothers, Joseph (Miriam) Ritchey of Spokane, Wash. and Harold (Carrie) Smith of Greenfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jennie Oglesby; his stepfather, Donald Robbins; and his stepmother, Audrey Ritchey.
In keeping with his wishes, his remains have been donated to the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University.
Anderson-Strueve Funeral Home is serving the family. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Pisgah-Mt. Pleasant Federated Church, 3217 Lyndon Rd., Greenfield, Ohio 45123 with Rev. Bailey and Rev. Vonderohe officiating.
