George C. Cox, 76, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 at the Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Feb. 3, 1936, at home in Highland County, the son of the late John and Minnie (Thompson) Cox.

He was a retired truck driver.

On Dec. 13, 2000, in Maysville, Ky., he married Renae (Burton) Cox, and she survives. He is also survived by six children, Ron (Jayne) Cox of Hillsboro, Bill (Rose) Cox of California, Hope (Bill) Johnson of Columbus, Jessica Cox of Georgetown, Cheyenne Morgan of Wilmington and Christian Burton of Wilmington; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Hise of Hillsboro, Gladys Rader of Hillsboro Dorothy Arledge of Seaman and Pauline (Wayne) Arledge of Hillsboro; three brothers, Bob Cox of Hillsboro, Dale (Wilma) Cox of Hillsboro and Don (Angel) Cox of Wilmington; a special niece, Emily Smith; two special nephews, David Burton and Jay Arledge; as well as several additional nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Cox; a brother, Paul Cox, and two sisters, Nellie Smith and Carolyn Wooten.  

Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial at the Dunkard Ridge Cemetery will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family in c/o Turner & Son Funeral Home.
