Elizabeth "Libby" L. Young

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth "Libby" L. Young, who left us on June 12, 2026, at the age of 63. 

Born on July 20, 1962 in Wilmington, Libby was a beloved mother, nana, sister and friend whose warmth and spirit touched the lives of everyone around her.

A member of the F.O.E. Aerie 1161 Ladies Auxiliary, Libby enjoyed spending time with her friends and community. She found joy in simple pleasures, whether it was dancing, mushroom hunting, or working in her garden. Libby shared wonderful moments playing bingo with her mother and sister, creating cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Libby's passion for life was evident in all she did, and her kindness and laughter will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She was a strong and supportive presence for her family, including her daughter, Mary Beth (Brad) Sonner; her sons, Robert (Reba) Bryan and James (Sarah) Benjamin; her grandchildren, Destiny, Gatlynn and Avrynne Sonner, Kieran, David, Audrey, Kesleigh, Charli and Jasper Young; brothers, Lowell (Judy), James (Teressa) and Carl Page; sister, C.J. Thornton; daughter-in-law, Anna Young; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Her family was her world, and her love for them was boundless.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Clara Faye (Fields) Page; sisters, Marlene Carter and Clara Belle Page; and granddaughter, Brookelyn Young.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, June 19 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

The funeral services honoring Libby's life will be at 1 p.m. Friday June 19 at the Thompson Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at the Union Chapel Cemetery near Belfast.
