Donald "Softy" McGarraugh Robinson, 88, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at Greenfield Area Medical Center.
He was born in Greenfield on Aug. 13, 1922, the son of the late Howard and Laura (McGarraugh) Robinson.
A graduate of McClain High School, he farmed for many years and retired from Armco Steel after 26 years with perfect attendance. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, a past member of the Masonic Lodge, charter member of the Greenfield Lions Club, Elks, Eagles, and GAMC volunteer for 45 years. He enjoyed sports, golf, fishing, and ball games, and had many wonderful friends. He was the first man of Greenfield to wear shorts on Jefferson Street and liked meeting "the guys" in town for coffee, and he never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; daughters, Susan (James) Copeland and Jan (Lonnie) Wilson; grandchildren Allyson (Zach) Bloom of New Market and Garret and Tamra Copeland of Ft. Myers, Fla.; great-grandchildren Magarah Bloom, Madeline Copeland, and Meyer Bloom; sister, Catherine Seilkop; brother, John; sister-in-law, Wanda (Ed) Robinson; brother-in-law Ray (Helen) Mann of Dayton); niece Nicole Roedding and daughter Olivia of Michigan; and his loving caretaker Lori Clouser of Greenfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Anderson-Strueve Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Revs. Clint Tolbert and Terry Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Greenfield First Presbyterian Church or the Rotary Needy Kids Fund.
