Clara C. Garen, 95, of Hillsboro (Carmel Community), died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Heartland of Hillsboro.
She was born on March 5, 1916 at Cynthiana, Ky., the daughter of Samuel Thomas and Elizabeth Ann (Garrison) Wagoner.
She was a member of the Rainsboro Church of Christ in Christian Union. On Aug. 20, 1936, she was united in marriage to Richard Garen. To this union were born two sons, James Robert and Jack Allen Garen, to whom she was greatly devoted. On June 20, 1949, she gave her life to Christ and became a member of the one great church. Kind and good in all her ways, honest and just to the end of her days, sincere and true in her heart and mind, sweet are the memories she leaves behind.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Richard Garen on Aug. 31, 1998; one son, James Robert "Bob" Garen on May 22, 2011; six brothers, her twin brother Clarence, Randolph, Melvin "Joe Bill," Cecil, Wallace and Howard Dennis "Den;" and five sisters, Zillah, Gertrude, Effie, Shirley and Elizabeth Ann.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Carolyn Garen of Hillsboro; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Garen of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Dale, Michael, David, and Jeff; seven great-grandchildren, Roger, Katie, Heather, Kelly, Jessica, Colton and Jenna; and one brother, Jake Wagoner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
