Charles Roger Purcell, 85, of Frankfort, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Valleyview Care Center near Frankfort.
He was born Oct. 19, 1925 in Washington C.H., the son of the late James and Verna Backenstoe Purcell.
Mr. Purcell was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII. As a child, he was a member of St. Colman Catholic Church in Washington C.H., and as an adult he became a member of and attended the Emmanuel Christian Church in Greenfield. Mr. Purcell owned and operated Purcell’s Painting, a commercial and residential painting company. He painted many homes and businesses in southern and central Ohio.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Purcell-Palmer of Chillicothe; two granddaughters, Tara and her husband Bill Knisley of Leesburg and Sara Palmer of Chillicothe; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Logan Knisley; his sister, Marjorie Batson of Washington C.H.; his brother, Harris (Ivanelle) Purcell of Washington C.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Fugate Purcell; sister Jean Hoppes; son-in-law Danny Ray Palmer; and brother-in-law Joe Batson.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Turner Funeral Home, Leesburg. Larry Maynard will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery, where the Highland County Honor Guard will accord military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
