Cathleen M. Shorter, 53, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Highland District Hospital.

She was born Oct. 14, 1957 in Cincinnati, the daughter of Janalyn Lewis Shorten and the late John Shorten.

Mrs. Shorter was a 1976 graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School, a member of the South Liberty Church of Christ and was a former employee of DHL in Wilmington.

She is survived by her husband, James Shorter whom she had married on Nov. 20, 1976 in Danville, Ohio; mother and step-father, Janalyn and Larry Beach of Lynchburg; six sisters, Lori (Steve) Vickers of Florida, Sharon (Rick) Ballman of Middletown, Cindy (Rob) Davidson of Lynchburg, Shelley (Chad Evanshine) Johnson of Hillsboro, Jana (Allen) Chaney of Lynchburg and Heather (Jason) Poynter of Blanchester; six brothers, Jim (Denise) Shorten of Cincinnati, Mike (Diana) Shorten of Hillsboro, Tim Shorten of Cincinnati, Dan (Vera) Shorten of Blanchester, Pat (Mimi) Shorten of Boston, Mass. and Steve Shorten of Hillsboro; two special nieces and one special nephew that had made their home with Cathleen and Jim, Missy Gilbert, Desarae Truman and John Gilbert; and several additional nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 28 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Robert Norris will officiate. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens in Hillsboro. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family, c/o Mr. Jim Shorter, P.O. Box 131, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142 to assist with expenses.
