Bernard R. "Butch" Harewood, 72, of Hillsboro died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery.
He was born Dec. 3, 1938 in Hillsboro, the son of the late H. Bernard and Harriet Williams Harewood.
Mr. Harewood had retired after 41 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier.
He was a member of the Wayman Chapel AME Church in Hillsboro where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the U.S. Postal Workers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Melba Kinney Harewood, whom he married on March 18, 1961 in Chillicothe; seven children, Kim Roberson of Cleveland, Anthony Wayne (Cindy Williams) Harewood of Hillsboro, Timothy Ray (Tracy) Harewood of Chillicothe, Coey Allen (Belinda) Harewood of Chillicothe, Michelle Harewood of Hillsboro, Karius Annette (Michael) Hudson of Hillsboro and Hennessy (Chris) Harris of Wilmington, 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wendell L. (Freida) Harewood and Perry A. (Virginia) Harewood of Hillsboro; one aunt, Edna Raney of Hillsboro; and two special friends, Bruce Bolden of Hillsboro and Clifford Kilgore of Wilmington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael W. Harewood.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21 at the Wayman Chapel AME Church in Hillsboro. The Rev. Michelle Godhigh will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
